Soundless Wind Chime -- best of Berlin

I wish I had news from the European Film Market and Berlin Film Festival that there's been a resurgence in gay cinema. Well there is, but it's in quantity rather than quality. I saw 32 feature films that ran the gamut from the bad -- Light Gradient -- to the outstanding -- Soundless Wind Chime (pictured above). The film tells the story, through flashbacks, of Ricky and Pascal, their love and their loss. This gem is mostly in English as that's their shared language (nice for us!) and its a gem. Themes of love, lust, reality, memory and illusions play off each other creating a superb little indie. TLA Releasing just inked a deal for the US. Expect a late fall 2009 DVD release.

The mushiest gay movie ever made

I just posted my review for what is certainly one of the most romantic gay films ever, Redwoods. Starring hot gay actor Matthew Montgomery, the film tells the story of a powerful love that burned bright. I felt the power of this film from a rough cut -- I can't wait till this summer to see it on the big screen for our festival, Philadelphia QFest. It's going to hit the summer gay film festival circuit before a fall DVD release from TLA Releasing.

Oy Vey! My Son is Gay!!

Oy Vey, My Son is Gay
Hey, we wouldn't joke about something like this...it's really a film title. Starring Bruce Vilanch, Vincent Pastore, Lainie Kazan, Jai Rodgriguez, Carmen Electra and Elliot Gould -- you guessed it -- it's about a gay Jewish boy and his mom. We saw the trailer in Berlin and it looks like an updated, much-better Mambo Italiano. From what I can gather the relationship of the two men is real, and a focus of the film. Yes there are roles here for virtually every Jewish and Italian actor in Hollywood, but it looks like it works. We're keeping on top of this story; stay tuned for further details.
